Condition Report

Original Vehicle

The Ferrari D50 has one of F1's most unusual origin stories. Designed by Vittorio Jano at Lancia, the entire Grand Prix program was handed to Ferrari when Lancia faced financial collapse. The car's innovative pannier fuel tanks and stressed-engine chassis were decades ahead of their time.

Peter Collins won the 1956 German Grand Prix at the Nurburgring driving this car. Collins is remembered for one of F1's greatest acts of sportsmanship: at the 1956 Italian Grand Prix, he voluntarily gave his car to Fangio mid-race so Fangio could win the championship. Collins reportedly said "I'm young — I'll have other chances." He was tragically killed at the Nurburgring in 1958 at age 26.
